Betsy and Ben

Another Old Glory (We R Memory Keepers) LO. Back to 12x12 today. =) This is another page created with the products in the July scrapbook kit from Pizazz It! Scrapbooks. I am so happy to get to play with this paper collection, I had been waiting to scrap these vacation pictures until I found the "right" papers.
My LO of Betsy Ross and Ben Franklin (Just actors here, of course LOL) and the house in the bottom photo is Betsy's house.
The scalloped border was made using my Coluzzle cutting system and the circle template. The letters I used were a real light baby pink- I inked them with a red. The pennant was a strip from one of the designer papers, it was "fussy cut" and I shaped it as I adhered it to the page. And the circle paper has lots of glitter!! All edges were inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

A Huge Layout **Edited to add more photos**

This is my very first 12 x24 layout!! Oh my goodness!! Now that it is completed I am a little nervous to slice it in half!! LOL I love the way 12x24s look, like one huge layout, instead of 2 layouts about the same thing. You know what I mean? =)

( Left side)

( Right Side)

12x24 sure makes it harder to photograph. LOL The pictures are from when Hunter joined the Continental Army in Philadelphia. I had saved his enlistment paper hoping for a chance to use it.  I love the stamped and staple-gathered twill ribbon, how fun is that? The bling swirl is cool too! I don't usually do a lot of journaling on my layouts, but I wanted to do my best to help Hunter remember.
 The layout is an adaptation of one Karrie did for the July Kit club at Pizazz It! Scrapbooks. I had so much fun with the goodies in this month's kit!!! {And can you believe I have all four layouts done BEFORE the first of the month?!?!?!}
I have 2 more layouts to share using the We R Memory Keepers Old Glory line.
Let me know what you think....

Bright and cheery

Here in Ohio we have had had so much rain, and the humidity has been just awful. With all the darkness I was more than happy to create my own little bit of brightness. =) I love the colors used for this Get Well card. I hope it brings a smile to my friend Kristie's face. She had a hip replaced this week and I am sure she would appreciate your prayers for a speedy recovery.

LOL, didn't I warn you it was bright?! :-D
Stamps- Hero Arts Big and Small flowers
Cardstock- PTI Raspberry Fizz, Spring Rain and New Leaf
Ink- Memento Tuxedo black
Copics-

Don't they look purty
I used the same stamped flower layer to make a Sympathy card too. It is on it's way to NC, so I don't have a picture of it. I used a monochromatic color scheme for that one. Here are the Copics I used for this one-

The Sympathy card went to my Aunt. She lost a 23 year old grandson in March, my mom (her sister) last month, and a 47 year old son last week.  My prayers go out to her and her family.
Thanks for taking a look!!

Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are hard for me to make.  Our dear Pastor recently lost his mother, it had been  just under 2 weeks since he made the 2 hour trip up north to be with our family during my mother's funeral. Needless to say, I KNOW Exactly what he is going through!! I pray the Lord will bring him and his family comfort.

Hello card

**Kristie, I used the Coluzzle circle template to make the scalloped border in the last post. **

While surfing youtube I happened upon this video----> Click here    I really like how her card turned out so I had to try it too. I used designer paper for my flower and leaves, and I  added some shading with Copic markers. I love this clean and simple card.

Authentic

Hows about a super quick 12x12 layout today? Seriously, I finished this one so quick I thought it couldn't possibly be gone. LOL Start to finish- less then 30 minutes, that includes the time it took to talk myself into using that yummy paper. (Basic Grey Boxer, in case you wanted to know. LOL)
It feels to to be creative again. ;-D There is something so therapeutic about making something with your hands, not to mention the feeling of accomplishment!!
(The pictures do not look so dark in real life.)
The pictures were taken on vacation last year, we spent a day in Philadelphia. After wandering around the city for a couple of hours taking in all the sights we decided it was time..... time for an authentic Philly Steak Sandwich. We got recommendations from several of the locals, but in the end we decided to go for the full experience- we opted for a street vendor. Oh my goodness, someone had run their big toe through it!! (That's an expression I picked up living in Columbus, it means it is better than delicious!! You know what I am talking about!! LOL)  It was the BOMB!!! and I got to take that off my Life List or as some call it a Bucket List. (Honestly, a few years ago when we made our Life Lists (Before the Bucket List movie) eating an authentic Philly steak was on my list!)
Anywho, back to the layout- I used small strips of different papers (that paper should last a LONG time using it this way) and inked all the edges. I dug out my beloved Coluzzle (rhymes with puzzle) system (don't get me started on it being retired!!!) and went to work. First I cut two half circles. Then......

Yep, I used it to make a scalloped border!!. (That was so easy to do. I drew a line on the back of my paper and then lined up the circle template to create half circles. Shift so the next "scallop" slightly overlaps the previous one.) I can not wait to try a scallop using some of the larger circles. oooh, I bet the ovals would work nice too!! Ok, go dig out your coluzzle and see what you can do with it.

Thanks for stopping by and the comments!!

Everyday life

We planted our garden 2 weeks ago yesterday. I am very pleased with how well everything is doing.

This is the entire garden. We went with 4'x4'  to keep them manageable, we are able to weed and hoe in less than 20 minutes!! They did really well for us last year, so we are hoping the weather cooperates this year and we have another bountiful harvest.

(L-R) Cucumbers, sweet bell peppers and radishes. This is my salad garden. LOL The pepper plants were just tiny when we planted them. The radishes look funny- I thinned them last night. As my dad would say, "They were thicker than the hair on a dogs back!" LOL I had to pull about 4 times that many. I hope they have lots of room to grow now.

This is either summer squash or zucchini. (ooops, I don't remember.) I only have a few plants in this box, but I know before long they will fill the entire box. We will transplant some of our strawberries to this bed, hopefully that will make finding the ripe ones easier for the kids. LOL

Ok, so this is either squash or zucchini, we should be able to tell before too long. At this stage they look similar, but before long they will look totally different.

Last, but not least- our tomatoes!! I ♥ tomatoes!! During both of my pregnancies I craved tomato sandwiches. Nothing better than a summer supper of fresh corn on the cob (I wish we had enough room for that) and a tomato sandwich -made with a straight from the garden THICK sliced tomato- with just a tiny bit of Miracle whip on whole wheat bread, hold the salt and pepper please. Ahhh, my mouth is watering just thinking abut it. Come on garden GROW!!
The kids helped plant the seeds and plants so it is good for them to see again how God's world works.
One other thing we have that I didn't get a picture of- Mulberries! We have TONS of mulberries, so many in fact that shoes are mandatory in our yard!! Still, every evening the kids are purple up to their knees where they have been walking and running through the yard. LOL

I am sure this is not the last you have seen of our garden this year. =) I am excited to share pictures of the fruits of our labors.

So, what is your favorite thing from the garden??

Thanks for stopping by!!

Spotlight technique

I know this technique has been around since the stone age in card making- but I think it is one that will never go out of style. (Especially, with card makers like myself that just never get around to it. LOL)
Anyhoo, this card was done for a challenge over on Ivillage. I sent each lady a set of stamped images and she is to have at it. =) We all have the exact same images, so it will be exciting to see what everyone comes up with.
